But perhaps after all, when he sang "La Javanaise" in 1963, he was content to greedily puff on his Gitanes... In those 60s, the most unpredictable of French composers was "cutting his teeth," alone, writing for others and especially for women. Those women whom he loved in his own unsettling way. He made BB whisper on "Bonnie And Clyde," Jane murmur with the "Ballade de Melody Nelson," and even doubted his paternal morality regarding Charlotte with "Lemon Incest." But Gainsbourg will remain an enigma, regardless. When he decides to become the narrator of "Mon légionnaire," without changing a word of the text written for Piaf, one continues to doubt. On the other hand, the creative genius of this indomitable jack-of-all-trades is indisputable. Whether he tries his hand at New York funk, "Love On The Beat," finds himself in one of his favorite domains, the warm ballad, "Sous le soleil exactement," or undertakes to revisit the national anthem in reggae, "Aux armes et caetera," it is always to confirm that he is the man for the job. This record contains all of this, a perspective through 20 songs, from the early days to the final recordings (including "Hey Man Amen") captured live at the Zénith. Gainsbourg or Gainsbarre, it matters little. He lives.
--José Ruiz

UPC: 731453222120

EAN: 0731453222120

Languages: French

Binding: Audio CD

Item Condition: New
