Saule has already released two highly successful albums that secured him a place in the public's heart. But "Géant" is a fresh start, a breath of fresh air that extricates the singer from the somewhat confined atmosphere of the "new French chanson" to see him explore new territories, at the confluence of two cultures that too often ignore one another: the Anglo-Saxon rock of his first musical loves as a teenager (Jeff Buckley, Radiohead) and the quality chanson he has been immersed in since his earliest childhood (Brassens, Gainsbourg). The album, recorded in a studio in the western suburbs of Paris, La Frette, with contributions from Ché, an English drummer, and Thomas Semence, a guitarist in high demand by everyone (Aubert, Raphael, Keren Ann), is of an incredible, almost inexhaustible richness. From the first track, "Home Sweet Home," of absolute sweetness, where Saule's voice reaches heights rarely attained since the passing of his hero, Jeff Buckley, to the last, "Vieux," of a devastating melancholy, the sounds intermingle and follow one another in a stunning fashion. Saule's humor is always present, as on the ambivalent "Chanteur Bio," which combines an English-style riff with caustic lyrics, or on "Type normal," a future hit with an obvious melody, a little marvel of self-deprecation about the absolute banality of a singer's life... On "Le Bon Gros Géant," the laughter turns bittersweet, and the tender and acidic self-portrait, avoiding a pure settling of scores, turns into an apology for being different, whatever that may be. Elsewhere, the vein is dreamier, as on "Rien que pour soi" or "Just a Song," magnificent and unsettling, carried by a pure and light voice. Saule even dares to embark on an a cappella passage of great beauty (Buckley again...), and, a rare thing around here, he has the means to do it, like illustrious predecessors such as Polnareff or Christophe. The richness of the album is finally perfectly illustrated by a tragic and moving song about the wear and tear of love, "L’inventaire de notre amour," delivered—and that is where all its originality lies—against a backdrop of relentless and breathless rock. Without seeming to try, Saule has just created a major work and brought a lovely breath of fresh air into our French chanson. This boy isn't done making a name for himself, and this first giant step is the proof.

UPC: 619061430925

EAN: 0619061430925

Languages: English

Binding: Audio CD

Item Note: From a library collection

Item Condition: UsedVeryGood
