Despite a lack of money, they raise him in good Christian faith, until the day he is discovered to have a heart defect that will require a transplant. Short on funds to cover the costs of this operation, John goes as far as to take the hospital hostage to prove his commitment to his son. \n Using proven dramatic devices, John Q. unfolds like a race against time where the good guys – John, his wife, and his friends – struggle through administrative mazes and fight against the bad guys – greedy media, the police, and a healthcare system that only treats the rich.
