Produced with the help of Gordie Johnson, leader of the Canadian band Big Sugar, the recording presents a heavier sound, undeniably indebted to the 70s. South American rock ("On fait ce qu'on aime"), reggae ("Fumer ou travailler"), punk rock reminiscent of the Ramones ("J'arrive"), or country evoking Jean Leloup ("Ma vie à l'heure"), every style seems welcome for the quartet originally from Quebec. While the band cannot be faulted in terms of performance, the same cannot be said for the artistic direction. The musicians indeed have a hard time digesting their influences (Rolling Stones, Beatles, Beach Boys, and the like) to develop a personal signature. Thus, this opus turns out to be more a succession of clichés and fragments modeled on the work of their idols than a true creative effort. To this deplorable lack of personality are added significant shortcomings in the lyrics, which are often sloppy, and the mannerisms of singer Sébastien Plante, who has the annoying habit of inserting more or less appropriate English passages. Fortunately, the effective studio work of Johnson, who managed to add depth to the band's sound, the consistently catchy melodies, and the skillful guitar flourishes by Pascal Dufour serve as a counterweight to these imperfections. Long-time fans will also be interested in a new version of "La Java," the band's first French-language composition. --Nicolas Houle

UPC: 808131122024

EAN: 0808131122024

Languages: English

Binding: Audio CD

Item Condition: UsedVeryGood
