Details: Amazon.ca Bécassine leaves her beloved Brittany and arrives in Paris to take care of Charlotte. Charlotte's mother, married to Edmond, a photographer who has left on assignment to the North Pole, is getting ready to leave for Venice to participate in a sculpture competition. But Bécassine and Charlotte will soon be drawn in spite of themselves into an adventure full of twists and turns, from Marseille to Spain via Lapland, as they try to solve the mystery of Edmond's disappearance. Adapted from the world-famous comic strip of the same name, Bécassine delights us by plunging us back into a bygone France, while slightly modernizing the adventures of the most famous of Breton women. Lively animation, non-stop plot twists, and judicious voice acting—Muriel Robin excels in the title role—make this animated film an exemplary success, which proves (once again) that French studios can easily compete with Disney productions when they are given the resources—right down to the songs, performed here by Enzo Enzo, Clarika, and Zabou Breitman. The DVD, brimming with exciting bonus features, will win over the skeptics and, above all, delight the younger ones, who will discover a new friend with her charmingly dated cap and uniform. --David Rault
