Nelson Mandela is a lawyer, one of the first Black lawyers in Johannesburg. One day, he is recruited by the ANC to fight against racial segregation. Even though Mandela had always wanted to lead a non-violent struggle, he is forced to use force to make himself heard. He then founds the military branch of the ANC. In 1962, he is arrested by the South African police and is sentenced to life in prison. Mandela is held prisoner on Robben Island where he suffers inhumane treatment. After 27 years of imprisonment, Mandela is finally released under the orders of President Frederik de Klerk.
