Details: Product Description Desjardins, Richard Amazon.ca A pivotal album in the musical history of Quebec, Tu m’aimes-tu introduced the French-speaking world to the talent and tender intensity of one of the greatest contemporary Quebecois poets. Although he had distinguished himself in another masterpiece subsequently acclaimed (Les Derniers Humains), as well as with his band Abbittibbi, Richard Desjardins had until then remained in the shadows. Tu m’aimes-tu, however, would trigger a resounding consecration for the darling son of Abitibi. It is difficult to remain unmoved by the words, the humor, and the finesse of a man who wields a polished verse as skillfully as the language of the land. A grumbling polemicist, filmmaker, and rocker, Desjardins whispers about life and shouts about love in raw, frank, and wild terms, disarming his audience with nothing but a piano, a guitar, and raw emotion, in songs that have become true classics (“Nataq,” “J’ai couché dans mon char,” and the superb “Tu m’aimes-tu,” later covered by Francis Cabrel). An amalgam of touches both poignant and delicate, Tu m’aimes-tu remains an album that is at once simple, powerful, and beautiful—beautiful enough to make you weep. -- Gary Lawrence
