Alys Robi / Diva - CD
Diva is Alys Robi’s first album of previously unreleased songs. Alys Robi was Quebec’s first star and a pioneer of world music and the Latin repertoire: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico. She influenced Diane Dufresne and Isabelle Boulay. Recently, Arielle Dombasle released an album covering the repertoire always championed by Alys Robi. The diva performs ballads from the repertoires of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey. She sings Frank Sinatra hits like I’ll Be Seeing You, You and I, a Kurt Weill classic, Speak Low, and a song from the blues and R&B repertoire, Goodnight, Wherever You Are. Also featured on the album are three instrumental pieces by the big band of Lucio Agostini—Alys Robi’s legendary arranger and conductor. A first! The CD comes with a well-documented 24-page booklet, including rare photos, that explores the context of the recording sessions and the origins of the Diva’s repertoire.
