Details: Amazon.ca As noted in the liner notes for this remarkable recording by Les Violons du Roy, Johann Sebastian Bach's The Art of Fugue is not, contrary to a persistent prejudice, a purely theoretical and unfinished work. Moreover, the pleasure Bernard Labadie offers us here far exceeds the intellectual satisfaction derived from understanding the contrapuntal techniques used by Bach in this fascinating demonstration. In fact, both the uninitiated and the seasoned enthusiast will be delighted by this music, which is full of energy, rigor, and majesty. The Quebec ensemble conducted by Bernard Labadie does admirable justice to this monument of music history. -- Dominique Olivier
