Details: Amazon.ca In the vein of The Talented Mr. Ripley and A Self-Made Hero, Catch Me If You Can is a film about imposture where the con artists are all the more deceptive for appearing to be the perfect son-in-law. As fresh and sparkling as a glass of champagne, this drama inspired by a true story also bears the signature of a reliable Hollywood staple: Steven Spielberg. Airline pilot, doctor, university professor, assistant prosecutor: who is Frank Abagnale Jr. really? How does he maintain this luxurious lifestyle? That is what FBI agent Carl Hanratty has sworn to discover. Intentionally light and without any deaths, Catch Me If You Can ventures into the realm of refined con artists with great sophistication. A perfect reconstruction of the 60s and 70s, with dapper and vibrant sets and soundtrack, serves as the backdrop for an ironic and delicious power struggle between impostor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and policeman (Tom Hanks). The only weak points: Frank's relationships with his parents (Christopher Walken and Nathalie Baye), which are a tad moralizing, and the disappointing female roles. But by multiplying the winks to the audience, notably to James Bond and Hitchcock, this intelligent and refreshing film remains charming, adopting, to our great delight, the form of a game that never takes itself too seriously. --Helen Faradji
