LaF / Citadelle - CD
As both their first official album and the first release on the 7ième Ciel label, "Citadelle" features 14 tracks rich in a vast and self-assured sonic exploration. A logical follow-up to the group's previous projects, "Citadelle" fits into current hip-hop trends while maintaining, this time around, a close connection to electronic music and Francophone pop, notably on the tracks in collaboration with guitarist Clément "Pops" Langlois-Légaré (Clay and Friends).
The result is a hybrid style that is meticulous and accessible. As for the lyrics, one notes a predominance of melodies and the presence of an ambient melancholy, a characteristic trait of the three rappers. Their pens, resolutely rooted in emotionality, testify to the group’s wide-ranging influences, from Quebec indie rock to European rap.
The tangible impact of these influences is felt in the angle adopted toward the hip-hop medium, in its quest for innovation and the unknown, a trend that is expressed, among other things, by the presence of collaborators outside the rap scene, namely Vince James (composition and vocals on "Nos roues"), N NAO (additional vocals on "Nos roues" and "Ultime"), and Émile Tempête (on "Hélium").
The "Citadelle" is a fictional place representing security, but also vulnerability, depending on which side of the ramparts one stands. This place embodies a refuge for thoughts and perpetual evolution, while highlighting the obstacles to overcome in order to improve consciousness and collective happiness within the "LaF microcosm."
