Details: Amazon.ca Of the five heavyweights of "Une fois cinq" (which he formed with Vigneault, Deschamps, Charlebois, and Ferland), Claude Léveillée is undoubtedly the least well-known. Not that he worked in obscurity: the first singer-songwriter to perform at Place des Arts, he joined the very exclusive circle of Edith Piaf’s collaborators in Paris. Yet, the demanding artistic approach of this accomplished lyricist and composer sometimes caused him to lose the attention of the general public. This double box set from Sony’s Émergence collection is an opportunity to dive back into his more accessible—yet still extremely sophisticated—work from the 1960s. "La Légende du cheval blanc," "Les Vieux Pianos," "Frédéric," "Le Rendez-vous": so many hits that are a pleasure to hear again in their original, unremastered versions, as on the worthwhile compilation *Mes années 60*. Played with agility and sensitivity, the seasoned pianist’s best pieces seem "carved from solid gold," to borrow the words of Nelligan, whose *Soir d’hiver* Léveillée set to music beautifully. Like all the titles in the collection (which notably retraces the early achievements of Gilles Vigneault, Monique Leyrac, and Les Séguin), this compilation provides only minimal documentation but offers a wide range of tracks—55! We find Léveillée’s instrumental experiments with André Gagnon as well as his forays into musical theater. A way to remember the loves of your youth, a bit like Frédéric. -- Frédéric Murphy Product Description Claude Leveille
