Details: A personal favorite from the 2008 Transmusicales! This dandy from Rennes plays tinkling pop music made of light loops and pretty, whispered lyrics. "I love details. It is the details that set the mood." Florian Mona knows how to choose his details well: a slight hesitation on an old keyboard at the first chord of a song, the crackling breath of an old LP, an out-of-tune banjo, the sound of a Super-8 projector. This gives a unique density to his songs, transmuting his gracefully melodic folk into intimate film music (a Hal Hartley who wandered toward Rennes, a Woody Allen thirty years younger...). But one can always hear, underneath, a stubborn and raw energy, as if he were holding back his punches.
