First published in 1823, a discrete echo of his lost loves, Heinrich Heine's collection Lyrisches Intermezzo is one of his most interesting works. It is hardly surprising, then, that Robert Schumann and Joseph-Guy-Marie Ropartz, both raised with a love of literature, would wish to set some of these gems to music. Also included on the album is Ravel's Don Quichotte à Dulcinée in the spirit of Heine's prosodic intro to the Intermezzo of poems.
