Details: Product description La Grande Séduction (Seducing Dr. Lewis) Amazon.ca A true popular success of Quebec cinema in 2003, winner of countless awards at both the Jutras and the Sundance Film Festival, La Grande Séduction also managed the feat of seducing the international market. For his first feature film, with a screenplay by comedian Ken Scott, Jean-François Pouliot could not have dreamed of better. The small village of Ste-Marie-la-Mauderne survives meagerly on fishing and, despite the social harmony that reigns there, aspires to develop its economy through the establishment of a factory. But, without a doctor at the heart of the community, investors refuse to consider the village as a possible destination. Thus begins the great seduction operation for the inhabitants, aimed at attracting a Montreal doctor to their midst. Bringing together some of the most popular Quebec actors (David Boutin, Raymond Bouchard, Clémence Desrochers, Rita Lafontaine, Benoît Brière...), filmed in the charming scenery of Harrington Harbour island, La Grande Séduction is a film that, without being revolutionary, is nonetheless eminently likable and ready to do its viewer some good. Halfway between the humanist optimism of a Capra and the charming poetry of a Jeunet, the plot also borrows a few accents from Pagnol through its social grounding. Revealing the ridiculousness of its characters to better make them endearing, this warm film nonetheless falters with a sometimes slightly static direction, but quickly makes up for it thanks to its catchy, lively dialogue and its convincing performers. It's hard not to let yourself be seduced! – Helen Faradji
