Details: Amazon.ca L’Album du peuple brings together comedic capsules produced by François Pérusse and broadcast on the radio in the early 1990s. By turns parodic and absurd, these sketches focus on subjects as diverse as the media, music, culture, and consumerism. Pérusse embodies various roles, manipulating and accelerating his voice through technical means to create the illusion of a multitude of characters and to lean into the world of cartoons. A pretext for laughter and numerous puns, these short stories also serve as an opportunity for the comedian to cast a gaze that is at times amused and at others scathing upon society. This first album, however, does not bring together Pérusse's best sketches: the high-pitched voices are annoying, the gags sometimes lack an effective punchline, and the humorous songs offer little interest. Nevertheless, the album provides a glimpse of the efficiency and unbridled humor of volumes 2 and 3. --Nicolas Houle
