Martin Deschamps / Le Désert - CD (Used)
Author: Deschamps, Martin
Release Date: 06-05-2003
Details: Amazon.ca Martin Deschamps, the rocker with a tender heart, did not win unanimous approval with Comme je suis, his first record, marked by the hits "Casanova" and "Quand?". While the public was charmed by this sincere but somewhat clumsy rock, critics were harsh toward the singer-guitarist. Things should improve with Le Désert, a second studio album that bears witness to a beautiful evolution. From the very first Arabic-inflected notes of the title track, one feels that Martin Deschamps has broken free from his monolithic style: delicious world beat, reggae ("Peace Reggae Love"), or Latin ("San Dona") accents, and even superb string arrangements (the very lovely "Vérité") come to color his sharp, straightforward rock. Deschamps can thank former Too Many Cooks guitarist Dan Georgesco, with whom he co-produced the album, for his impeccable work. Unfortunately, the lyrics are not always up to the care taken with the arrangements, and the rocker often falls into easy territory: songs like "Big Baboon" and "L’Espion rock’n’roll" will certainly not go down in history. Nevertheless, Le Désert finally proves that Martin Deschamps can bring his own very personal touch to Quebec rock. --Frédéric Boudreault Product Description Deschamps, Martin
