Details: Amazon.ca Don't let the soothing notes of the lute that open "Menfi" fool you. For right behind them, just a few bars later, a real assault of electric guitars awaits the unsuspecting listener. Setting the tone for his first live album, the singer from Lyon attacks head-on. He won't let go, right to the end. Just like the darbuka, which leads the oriental dance at the heart of the fast-paced rock ("Nokta"). The songs take their time to take effect, and through the power of the band, one can feel all the energy of Taha and his men. The boys wildly transcend what might be raï if it didn't have that enraged voice singing the words that these white-hot guitars are smearing, again and again. Steve Hillage, who also produced the album, illuminates the most agitated tracks, such as "Bent Sahra" or "Foot Foot," with his dazzling, ethereal playing. He also knows how to respond to the lute and engage in dialogue with Femi Kuti's sax, which came to support the assault on "Ala Jalkoum." Every track here is a violent pretext for dancing, for trance, and this first live recording experience shows just how much Rachid Taha is in his element here better than anywhere else. --José Ruiz Product Description Taha, Rachid
