This anthology summarizes 50 years of a career punctuated by great songs, marked by great encounters (Piaf, Cocteau, Picasso). On the first CD, you will find 22 songs written between 1953 and 2003, the poet’s most beautiful works. On the second, 20 instrumental pieces, less well-known (save for the theme from the TV series Scoop), remind us that Léveillée composes just as well as he writes. Poet, pianist, and actor, the septuagenarian is also a performer who, like Brel, Barbara, Vigneault, or Ferré, acts out and lives his songs as much as he sings them. Through lyrics, music, and a booklet filled with abundant archival photos, a discography, and a fairly detailed biography, we follow the journey of an intense, principled, and rigorous man, fueled by passion and a love of art. From "Frédéric" to "Les Vieux Pianos," from "Boulevard du crime" (sung here by Édith Piaf, friend and interpreter of the poet) to "Pour quelques arpents de neige," we rediscover the flawless language and sense of narrative of this great songwriter who, in just a few strokes, knows how to sketch moods, paint portraits, and create lasting images. In this double compilation album, Léveillée delivers, ahead of time, a testament that will bear witness to his immense talent for generations to come. --Pascale Millot
