Details: Amazon.ca Maxime Le Forestier returned to the spotlight in 1995 with a perfectly executed album. From blues to reggae, and through country, zouk, and the bamba, the artist—ever curious about music from other places and different musical trends—successfully alternates genres throughout. Meanwhile, he invites a multitude of talents to cross paths on the record. Boris Bergman (lyricist for Alain Bashung, among others) co-writes three tracks of beautiful humanism; Vanessa Paradis and Jean-François Bernardini of I Muvrini each contribute the charm of their unique voices; Didier Lockwood lends his violin, Richard Galliano his accordion, and Jean-Jacques Milteau his harmonica. The end result is a richly written, expertly blended, and delightfully rhythmic album, remarkably served by the delicate and inventive arrangements of Jean-Pierre Sabar, his loyal collaborator. Nothing but the best, with "La Petite fugue" as a bonus—born from Maxime's wonderful teenage collaboration with his two sisters, Anne and Catherine, and which had previously only appeared on a 1969 45 rpm record. A timeless and precious gem that comes to life again in a moving piano-vocal version. --Sylvie Devilette
