With the EP Philédouche, Philémon Cimon presents complex relational writings, where the mother, the sister, and the lover merge. The lyrics are poetic, intimate, and direct.
Recorded primarily in Charlevoix (St-Joseph-de-la-Rive church, Port-au-Persil chapel, gazebo at the family inn L’été) and in his Montreal apartment, with the same musicians as on the album Pays (2019) – Nicolas Basque on guitar, Adèle Trottier and Josianne Boivin on backing vocals, Philippe Brault on mixing, Ryan Morey on mastering –, it features much of the same raw, dreamlike sound as the previous album. In fact, these songs were recorded at the same time as Pays, during the same sessions; it’s just that the themes were different. These were older songs, songs that occupied the transitional creative space between Les femmes comme des montagnes (2015) and Pays (2019), and Cimon decided to keep them for a separate project, Philédouche.
