Details: Product Description Best Of Amazon.ca Listening to Brel never leaves you indifferent. And how could it be otherwise? It is as if poetic genius had been embodied in him or had invested him with a sacred mission. The mission of being the interpreter, and also the author, of one of the finest repertoires in French and world music. Strongly inspired by the golden age of the Rive Gauche period, Brel experiments between the poetic genre and the philosophical essay. The result: fascinating musical works that plumb the depths of the soul until you are completely overwhelmed. November 1, 1966. Final Olympia. At the end of his recital, the artist returns to bow eight times to the captivated audience and addresses them: "I thank you, because this justifies fifteen years of love." 15 years of love with all the power and emotion of these 20 interpretations ("Mathilde", "La Chanson des vieux amants", "Ne me quitte pas", "Amsterdam", and the others). Though Brel is gone, his work still splashes and challenges us today. --Valérie Dupouy
