Details: Product description Red Dragon - Director's Edition Amazon.ca Hollywood producers have a hard time not milking a hit movie for all it's worth. Thus, after Hannibal, which served as a sequel to the excellent Silence of the Lambs, the "past" is now revealed in Red Dragon, directed by Brett Ratner. Former FBI agent Will Graham is living a peaceful retirement until the day the heinous murders committed by a terrible schizophrenic, saddled with the sweet nickname "Red Dragon" in homage to a William Blake painting, force him back into service. To understand the inner workings of the psychopath's mind, he will have no choice but to call upon the equally terrible Hannibal Lecter, whom he had arrested himself. Even though Red Dragon features a solid cast including Ed Norton, Emily Watson, Harvey Keitel, and, of course, Sir Anthony Hopkins, it nevertheless suffers from major inconsistencies. First, the overly modern cinematic treatment feels anachronistic given that the action is supposed to take place in the 80s. Second, the relationship between Norton and Hopkins never reaches the seductive and perverse intensity that bonded Jodie Foster to the cannibal. Between the two men, there is only a power struggle that lacks the subtlety needed to be truly unsettling. The film can, however, count on well-executed suspense, thanks in particular to the late arrival of the killer, played by a Ralph Fiennes who is as crazed and vulnerable as one could wish, and a spectacular finale. This final chapter (one hopes!) in the Dr. Lecter trilogy will therefore still manage to stir up the expected thrills. --Helen Faradji
