Details: Amazon.ca Suffocated by the immense success of La Llorona, her first album which sold over 410,000 copies, Lhasa de Sela disappeared from the music world for over four years. The absence, though long, was not in vain. The artist, in fact, resurfaces with an immensely rich second record that avoids the pitfall of repetition. A personal adventure if there ever was one, The Living Road is an opportunity for the Quebecer by adoption to sing in the three languages she masters – French, English, and Spanish – and to invest in new musical territories without ever straying from her "world" roots. Her deep voice, with its melancholic inflections, rests upon Kabyle percussion, mariachi trumpets, or synthetic elements. The "living road" in question is, of course, Lhasa herself. Throughout the songs, she recounts her unique nomadic life, made of encounters, farewells, and reunions. Her compositions take on the appearance of small islands, establishing their coherence through their atmospheres ("Soon this place will be too small"), their lush orchestrations ("Anywhere On This Road"), or their stripped-back ones ("My Name"). Masterfully produced by François Lalonde and Jean Massicotte, The Living Road is not just a finished album combining tradition and modernity; it is a collection of essential tracks. --Nicolas Houle Product Description Lhasa
