Details: The year is 1964. Martin Bishop is 18. His recently deceased father has left him a good education and high moral principles, as the bank has seized the family farm. Martin lands a job as a timekeeper on a construction site in the Northwest Territories. In the middle of the forest, under the direction of a tyrannical foreman, they are building a stretch of railway. 52 miles in 52 days: a lucrative feat. In this remote camp from which there is no escape, corruption is a way of life. The workers, a band of ragtag idiots and thieves chosen specifically for their defects, dare not complain. But Martin is upright and won’t play along. He asks questions and is outraged by certain practices. What ill fate will the bosses have in store for this honest and naive boy, this lamb in a pack of wolves? And what will become of Martin’s principles under the threat of retaliation?
