Details: The third album from the ambitious singer-songwriter makes an even greater play for mainstream acceptance. Marius De Vries (Björk, Madonna, Massive Attack) helms the producer's chair, bringing the young Wainwright a fresh, polished, and challenging sound that incorporates many of his musical strengths. Recorded in Woodstock, New York, and London, it features lush orchestrations (by both Wainwright and De Vries) and harmonies, as well as instrumental contributions from former Bob Dylan guitarist and Texas legend Charlie Sexton, and drums laid down by David Bowie's Sterling Campbell, The Band's Levon Helm, and Matt Johnson. Cameos also include his sister Martha and mother Kate McGarrigle, as well as Linda Thompson. This special edition includes a bonus CD with live renditions of "Want," "Leaving for Paris" (previously unreleased), "Dinner at Eight," and "Cœur de Parisienne (Reprise d'Arletty)." All songs were recorded live at France Inter's "Black Session."
