Author: Lavoie, Pascale

Details: The album "You and the Night and the Music" is in the great vocal jazz tradition. The pride of the Guide Tone Label, Pascale Lavoie has joined the ranks of the great interpreters of the vocal jazz repertoire. Pascale brings a sophisticated intimacy to both great standards and contemporary songs of love and loss. With her album "You and the Night and the Music," the Montreal-born singer adds a personal and subtle sensuality to her interpretations of jazz standards and bossa nova. The title track, "You and the Night and the Music," with its smooth bossa beat arrangement and expressive vocals, is a perfect introduction to the talents of Pascale and her group. "Pretend it's not a Lie," with its harmonic and lyrical variations on standard blues, is a composition by Pascale and Maxime-Samuel Seguin that closes the album but promises more developments to come. Pascale's French version of "The Girl from Ipanema" adds a refreshing Gallic charm to a familiar Jobim composition. Pascale flirts with both passion and exoticism as she reintroduces us to great classics while unveiling new material. Added to Pascale's velvety voice is the beautiful support of her exceptional musicians. This is vocal jazz of the highest quality! "You and the Night and the Music" introduces an elegant new stylist in the enduring tradition of jazz. An attractive artist, Pascale Lavoie is sure to appeal to both jazz fans and those who just love good music beautifully presented.
