Details: Amazon.ca Writer and director Clement Virgo's first feature moves between three separate tales featuring black characters that take place in downtown Toronto over Easter weekend. The stories are not interwoven, but remain unconnected to each other except insofar as that they take place in the same neighbourhood, over the same period and feature the pirate radio broadcasts of Rude (voiced by Sharon M. Lewis) hovering in the background. One story involves a young tough guy (Richard Chevolleau) who hangs with gay-bashing friends, even as he finds himself questioning his own sexuality. The second involves a single woman (Rachel Crawford) who struggles to deal with whether or not to go through with an unplanned pregnancy. By far the most developed of the stories concerns Maurice Dean Wint as an ex-con who wants to go straight for the sake of his young son, but must resist the lure of his drug dealing cronies (Clark Johnson and Steven Shellen). This is a moody and atmospheric movie that instantly established Virgo as a director who knows how to put style and lyricism into his films. The movie's worth seeing for the good dialogue and some fine performances, especially from Wint and Johnson, two of Canada's more charismatic actors. --D.K. Latta Product description Rude
